Conversation Management

Backend.AI GO provides a sidebar for organizing your AI interactions. You can keep your conversations tidy using folders, renaming, and easy navigation.

The sidebar on the left gives you quick access to:

  • New conversation: Starts a fresh conversation with the currently selected model.

  • Library: Generated images, chat bookmarks, and artifacts. See Library.

  • Conversations: Your conversation history, organized in a tree structure.

Organizing with Folders

You can create a nested folder structure to categorize your conversations (e.g., "Coding", "Creative Writing", "Research").

Creating Folders

  1. Hover over the conversation list header or an existing folder.

  2. Click the New Folder icon (or access via context menu).

  3. Name your folder.

Managing Conversations

  • Move: Drag and drop conversations into folders to organize them.

  • Rename: Double-click a conversation title or use the right-click menu to rename it to something memorable.

  • Context Menu: Right-click any folder or conversation to see options like Rename, Delete, or New conversation here.

Search History

Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to quickly find past conversations. It searches through conversation titles to help you locate that one specific code snippet or recipe you generated weeks ago.

Conversation Restore

When you navigate to the chat screen without an active conversation, Backend.AI GO automatically reopens your most recently updated conversation. This means returning to /chat picks up where you left off, without requiring you to manually select the conversation each time.

Clicking New conversation in the sidebar bypasses restore and starts a blank conversation immediately.

To disable this behavior, go to Settings > General and turn off Restore last conversation on launch.

Data Privacy

All conversation history and folder structures are stored locally on your device's file system. Each conversation is saved as an individual JSON file. This ensures that your data remains under your control and is easily accessible in a standard format. Uninstalling the app may delete this data, so be sure to backup your model data directory if you plan to reinstall.
