Glance¶
Glance reads the apps and folders you connect, finds the events and to-dos in what they show, and adds them to Calendar and Reminders, using a local model only. It is under Agents in the sidebar.
Mention names¶
A busy messenger fills Glance with plans that are not yours. When Glance knows the names people use for you, it can keep only the messages that mention you.
Add your names in the Mention names section of Settings > Glance, just above Destinations and permissions, or on the last page of Glance's introduction, which you can skip. Adding or removing a name saves it at once. A name can be a full name, a first name, an English name, or a handle. You can add up to 20 names of up to 60 characters each. Glance drops spaces at either end and a leading @, and keeps one copy of a name typed twice in different case.
Under the field, Glance offers names you can add with one click: the full name of your macOS account, and the short form of a name you entered (허진호 offers 진호, Jinho Heo offers Jinho). Nothing is added until you click it, and Glance does not read your contacts.
Your names also go to the model with every read, so a request addressed to you is read as yours.
Reading only messages that mention you¶
Each connected app has Read only messages that mention you in Settings > Glance > Per-app settings. With it on, Glance keeps a message from that app only when it names you, and the other messages never reach the model. Until you add a name, the switch stays off, and the Mention names link beside it takes you back to the field on the main Glance settings page. Once one name is saved, you can turn the switch on. Folders have no such switch: a bill or a document in a watched folder concerns you without naming you, so it is read in full.
A message mentions you when one of your names appears in it as a whole name:
- A leading
@is fine:@Jinhoand@진호match. - Names in Latin letters match in any case:
JINHOandjinhomatchJinho. - Korean endings may follow the name: honorifics and titles (님, 씨, 선배, 팀장), the vocative (아, 야), and particles (이, 가, 은, 는, 을, 를, 에게, 한테, 께), so
진호님께서는matches. Japanese honorifics and particles (さん, くん, は, が) are read the same way. - A name inside another word does not count:
진호does not match진호텔or김진호, andJindoes not matchJinho. - A mention of the whole team, such as
@channel,@here, or@all, does not count unless you added it as one of your names. - In text that does not separate words with spaces, such as Chinese, a name matches only where a space or punctuation sets it off.
When none of the new messages in a read mentions you, the activity log records the read as No message mentions you.
